AGCRF intervenes to support under-resourced school in Itekun, Ogun state

The famous adage, “every cloud has a silver lining” perfectly captures the extraordinary intervention of the Amazing Grace Children’s Rights Foundation in addressing the neglect and deprivation that have plagued the remarkable children of the St. Jude Anglican primary school, Itekun town, Ogun State.

Since its inception in 1940 with a meager three classrooms, this school has endured decades of substandard infrastructure, inadequate resources, understaffing, and many other challenges. Despite the teacher’s tireless efforts to maintain the school’s standard and provide meaningful education to the community, there have only been few notable achievements.

At the time of the visit, the school had only three teachers managing a total of 357 pupils, and it has been a challenging journey for the students of the St. Jude Anglican primary school. Since the 2013 renovation that only resulted in the construction of a pit latrine, the government has made no meaningful efforts to support the school.

As a result, the community took it upon itself to manage the school, including attempts to build additional classrooms. And in 2019, a secondary school was successfully established with just four classrooms, which is insufficient to accommodate the growing number of pupils who wish to be educated.

The dreams of creating an enabling learning environment that fosters quality education and the grooming of future leaders have remained nearly impossible to achieve.

Dedicated to improving and transforming lives, the Amazing Grace Children’s Rights Foundation pursued its mission of empowering and assisting the younger generation in Itekun. The foundation identified the pressing needs of the students at the school and took prompt action to meet them.

Following a brief meeting with the school’s head teacher (name withheld) and an inspiring speech to the enthusiastic students, the foundation has assumed responsibility for addressing several critical needs. The foundation plans to donate various resources, including teaching aids and materials, to the school.
